What gets covered
- Business and program goals the technology has to support.
- Audience and access requirements (accessibility, language, device).
- Current technical landscape: hosting, CMS, integrations, content sources.
- Constraints: budget, timeline, governance, risk appetite.
- Quick-win opportunities vs. structural changes.
What you walk away with
- A documented problem statement and success criteria.
- A scoped recommendation with phased options and rough cost ranges.
- A risk and dependency register.
- A decision: proceed to Define Phase, take recommendations back in-house, or part ways with no further commitment.
Why it’s paid
Spec work doesn’t produce good recommendations. Paying for Discovery aligns incentives — the output is yours to keep regardless of whether you continue the engagement — and lets the team go deep on your specific situation rather than producing a generic proposal.
